One lawyer had an interesting excuse for why she was caught drunk driving. I’m Amy E. Feldman.
A lawyer in Wales who was observed drifting all over the road was found to be more than three times the legal limit for drinking and driving. Her excuse? It was the kombucha tea that she’d been drinking which she posited must have been made using the wrong type of brewer’s yeast. Or, and hear me out, it might also have had something to do with the red wine she also admitted she’d had.
Regardless, even if it were true that the kombucha caused her blood alcohol level to be above the legal limit, it makes no difference. The law doesn’t say you have to be drunk from alcohol to be convicted of drunk driving. And in the US, you don’t even have to be above the legal limit; you just need to be driving while impaired, which can be caused by alcohol, medication, even over the counter cold medicine. No word on whether she’ll be disbarred, but for sure she should be distanced from bars.
