Zsa Zsa Gabor’s widower has adopted a son. Who is an adult. I’m Amy E. Feldman.
Frédéric Prinz von Anhalt, the widower of Zsa Zsa Gabor, announced that he has become a father—of an adult. According to von Anhalt, he adopted a 27-year-old man because he wants to pass down his royal title… and also maybe to have someone who can provide elder care to him including cooking, driving, and helping with his computer. Yeah, that’s heartwarming. But is it legal to adopt an adult?
While 62% of those adopted were placed with their adoptive families within a month of their birth, most states have no age limit on adoptions as long as the parent is older than the person being adopted. Many adult adoptions are done to formalize the love of a step parent or foster parent or to transfer assets more easily, or for decision-making authority, like for those who want to help special needs adults. For those who want help with their cooking, maybe they should look into hiring a chef.
