Jennifer Hudson’s engagement ring is about to be sold on an auction site. Guess who’s gonna get the profits? I’m Amy E. Feldman.
When actress/singer Jennifer Hudson belted out “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” in the movie Dreamgirls, she clearly wasn’t singing that to her now-ex-fiancé WWE wrestler David Otunga with whom she split in 2017 after a ten year engagement. We now know she wasn’t speaking to her engagement ring either, a five-carat diamond that’s about to hit the auction block.
While the breakup was far from amicable, one thing that wasn’t contested was who got the ring after the split. He did. Under the law, an engagement ring does not become the woman’s property when it’s given. It’s a conditional gift, which means it doesn’t belong to the woman on whose finger it sits until the condition—that they get married—is met. Since they never got married, she doesn’t get to keep the ring or its profits but like her other movie, she does get Respect.
