Jane Doe wants some information from the FBI. I’m Amy E. Feldman.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt filed for divorce in 2016 after an incident on a private jet involving their son. The FBI investigated the incident—but brought no charges and the case was closed. But now a lawsuit just surfaced brought by “Jane Doe,” whom most believe is Angelina Jolie herself, seeking information about that investigation through a Freedom of Information Act request.

The Freedom of Information Act gives people a right—enforceable in court—to have access to records from any federal agency, but here’s the thing. There are exceptions to that right of access, among them, the government doesn’t have to disclose information that would constitute an unwarranted invasion of personal privacy of the individual(s) involved—so information about a family dispute would likely not have to be disclosed. Sorry, Mrs. Smith. I mean Mrs. Doe. I mean Ms. Jolie.
