Singer Miley Cyrus is now facing a lawsuit for posting a picture of herself. I’m Amy E. Feldman.
Nothing takes a wrecking ball to the pocketbook quite like a lawsuit, which Miley Cyrus, Wrecking Ball singer, is now facing because she posted a photo of herself on Instagram. The photo was taken by a photographer, who sued the singer for copyright infringement because she posted his photo on Instagram, where it could be viewed by her hundred eighty million followers.
Cyrus is only the most recent celebrity apparently to be under the mistaken belief that a photo of her is hers to use—Justin Bieber, Ariana Grande, and Lisa Rinna have all been sued for the same misunderstanding of copyright law. You don’t have an expectation of privacy when you’re out in public, so you can be photographed. But it’s the photographer who owns the copyright to a picture, not the person in it. We will see if Cyrus settles the case or decides that trying to win is worth The Climb.
