Alec Baldwin has been sued again—even though he already settled the case. I’m Amy E. Feldman.
In November, Alec Baldwin and the production company behind the Western Rust settled a wrongful death lawsuit brought by the husband and son of Halyna Hutchins, the cinematographer shot on set. Now, Hutchins’s parents and sister have filed another lawsuit.
The idea of bringing a case for the same harm against the same defendants is perplexing. The lawyer for the parents said that the settled case benefitted the husband and child; this is for different family members, which is true, but usually wouldn’t make a difference. When a defendant pays money to settle a lawsuit, in exchange he should get an unconditional release of all claims of any kind or nature and it’s made with the person who represents her estate on behalf of all of her heirs, legal representatives, successors, and assigns; in other words, anyone who would have a right to claim they were harmed. It remains to be seen if this new civil suit will be allowed to proceed or if the matter is already settled.
