A lawsuit against Lady Gaga to enforce the promise of a reward, no questions asked, leads to questions. I’m Amy E. Feldman.
After Lady Gaga’s dogs were stolen in an armed dognapping, she tweeted she would pay $500,000 for their safe return, no questions asked, and added: “if you bought or found them unknowingly, the reward is the same.” Two days later, a woman returned the dogs to the police station. She was later charged with receiving stolen property and with being an accessory because she was dating the father of one of the dognappers.
Lady Gaga refused to pay the reward, so the woman has now filed suit. Not only did Lady Gaga explicitly say that the person had to come upon the dogs unknowingly making this suit moot, but addition, because the plaintiff was an accessory, even if she received money, it would conceivably go back to the victims of the crime as restitution. As for the “no questions asked” policy, I think we all have one question: are you out of your mind?
