One Redditor is mad her neighbor mowed her lawn without asking, then sent her a bill. I’m Amy E. Feldman.
A woman posted on Reddit after she was surprised when she looked out her window to see her neighbor riding his lawn mower on her property, apparently having mowed her lawn—which she had not asked or wanted him to do. But her surprise turned to anger when he sent her a bill. Redditors agreed she should not pay, but might she have to?
Well, there are times when you have to pay for something even if you never signed a contract. If, for example, they had discussed it and he’d told her his price and she nodded, she’d have to pay because that’s an implied contract. She had no idea he was going to do it and when she realized, assumed he had been neighborly—not businessly (which is not a word, and certainly not one to describe their relationship). So, no implied contract and no obligation to pay him, but she could bake him a pie to be neighborly when she tells him not to do it again.
